But it has said it has “contingency plans” in place for both the products it is shipping and its members who may strike, UPS told The Hill last week. ![]() The shipping company has said it transports roughly 6 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) for the US alone. Here’s what to know about the looming possible strike: What will happen to my packages?Ī strike by the tens of thousands of UPS workers represented by Teamsters could significantly disrupt deliveries, potentially delaying packages or prompting higher shipping costs from other companies. The strike would be one of the largest in U.S. The union, which represents roughly 340,000 members working for UPS, voted last month to authorize a strike if a deal isn’t reached before July 31. Its assets include 39 planes, dozens of depots and thousands of trucks and containers.Talks between shipping giant United Parcel Service (UPS) and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters fell apart last week, upping the possibility that the union could strike in a massive walkout when their current contract expires at the end of this month. Toll Global Express moves parcels and pallets in Australia as well as large containers of goods and provides transport and contract logistics services in New Zealand. The hefty losses at Toll, which has also suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic and cyber attacks, were partially due to some $3.6 billion of transport and logistics costs, which cut into $6.3 billion of group revenues, and included a $814.7 million write-down in the global express division.Īllegro, which has hired former Australia Post CEO Christine Holgate to run Toll Global Express, will take on debt owed by the express business and spend about $500 million separating it from Toll, restructuring the group and paying off liabilities. The Toll Group slumped to a $1.1 billion net loss for the 12 months ending March 30. To sign up, drivers of 4-door vehicles just need to download the Amazon Flex app, review company videos and pass a background check. TWU National Secretary Michael Kaine said that Toll’s wage offers showed that its transport contracts were being “squeezed” as the gig economy expanded and new competitors like the Amazon group’s Amazon Flex emerged in the transport sector.Īmazon Flex hires independent drivers to pick up and deliver its packages. The TWU has asked for 3 per cent wage increases in 2020, 20, the ability to cash out unused sick leave to contribute to superannuation, all Sunday work to be paid at double time and part-time employees to be paid at overtime rates if they work more than agreed hours. Toll is understood to be offering a one-off lump sum payment of $750, followed by wage increases of 1.5 per cent in 2021, and a further 1.75 per cent in 2022 as well as existing employees’ superannuation rate of 14.75 per cent. “Australians who have already endured supply chain disruptions because of COVID will find any action that deliberately causes further uncertainty very hard to fathom.” “Toll transport workers enjoy industry-leading pay and conditions,” a company spokesperson said. ![]() Toll said it was disappointed by the union’s action and that it was trying to reach a fair and reasonable agreement. ![]() Heavy losses in the Global Express division have forced the logistics group’s owner, Japan Post, to raise cash by selling the division off. It also claims the logistics group is refusing to sign a deed guaranteeing the pay and conditions of thousands of Toll Global Express drivers following its sale to Allegro Funds. The union says these contracts will be just above minimum award rates including superannuation rates of no more than 10 per cent. The TWU, which represents truck drivers, claims Toll wants drivers to sign a “substandard” enterprise agreement that employs new workers on part-time contracts with no overtime entitlements. ![]()

The ability for nodes to be saved and to pass information, in the form of attributes, down the chain is what gives Houdini its procedural nature. These types of concepts will translate anything vfx related and help you in your career. ![]() Jason Keyser made a nice playlist for some of these concepts applied to games. Things like timing, shape, motion, color, etc. But there isn’t anything that you need to add extra attention for learning Houdini in my opinion.Īreas that you can pay more attention while using Houdini is principles of art theory. Anything that you learn in your Houdini journey can be useful in the future. But think of it as a means to an end, instead of a full solution. Houdini can help generate content for games. Many times we are limited to camera facing cards or simple meshes with a panning material. The biggest difference that you will find is the techniques that are used for game VFX. These particles play back the top of the simulation to create the explosion in engine. This material is applied to a particle system that spawns a few particles. Now in the game engine you create a material that uses your new awesome flipbook texture. From these frames you pack the normal, alpha, and emission into a 1024x1024 rgba flipbook. Then render 32 frames with several lights, used to generate a normal map out of (cheaper than a light map). In games you might place a camera above the explosion that tracks it. Only render the volume in the scene and then bring it into Nuke to composite it. In film you may need to place it in your scene. For both applications you would need to create a source for the simulation then tweak your simulation and materials settings for your end goal. The area that they differ is how the fundamentals are applied. Both game and film VFX use the same core fundamentals of Houdini. ![]() ![]() Object creation with drawing, shape, and text tools.ĭownload Inkscape (Free): /release/inkscape-1.0/mac-os-x/.When you are finished editing it, just save it as a PDF file or another supported format. Furthermore, we compared the relative predictive value of serum AG ratio with other inflammatory markers to ascertain the clinical relevance of serum AG ratio in predicting kidney outcomes.ĭata collection and assessment of inflammatory markers Therefore, in the present study, we first investigated the prognostic value of serum AG ratio for CKD development using a large scale, community-based, prospective cohort in Korea. However, to the best of our knowledge, the issue whether serum AG ratio associates with declining kidney function has not been explored before. ![]() This significant association of serum AG ratio with chronic inflammation led us to hypothesize that serum AG ratio is a significant predictor of CKD development. In a study of patients with systemic rheumatic diseases, serum AG ratio was correlated with CRP and erythrocyte sedimentation rate concentrations, suggesting the significant association of serum AG ratio with inflammation. Low serum AG ratios have been observed in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and bronchiectasis, both of which are major chronic inflammatory diseases. Although the mechanism by which serum AG ratio has a significant association with unfavorable clinical outcomes has yet to be fully clarified, chronic inflammation has been regarded as a convincing explanation. Įmerging evidence indicates that serum albumin-to-globulin ratio (AG ratio), calculated by dividing serum albumin by serum globulin (total protein-albumin), is an effective prognostic indicator in chronic diseases. Higher levels of inflammatory markers, including white blood cell (WBC), C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (sTNF-R1), are significantly associated with a greater risk of declining kidney function. To date, various inflammatory markers have been studied to determine their association to CKD development. Apart from established traditional risk factors, chronic inflammation has been known to play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of CKD development. Considering higher risk of cardiovascular complications and premature mortality caused by CKD, identifying the risk factors of CKD development would be useful for clinical practice. ![]() The increasing incidence and prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) had led to its global recognition as a preeminent public health problem. ![]() ![]() New research is emerging that explores the link between HLA and disease susceptibility, response to immunotherapy, and more.
